New Bedford police arrest 2 in drug, gun seizure

NEW BEDFORD — Two people were arrested after detectives executed a search warrant that led to the seizure of a loaded gun and large quantities of illegal narcotics at a West End apartment.

Detective Matthew Couture assisted Worcester police in executing the search warrant Tuesday at 80 Nemasket Pl., Apt. A.

The target of the search was Carlos Sanquintin, 27.

Detectives recovered a Taurus Ultra Lite .38 Special revolver loaded with five rounds of ammunition.

Officers also located cocaine, MDMA, Percocet, codeine, marijuana, over 24 grams of fentanyl, and over 28 grams of methamphetamine.

Officers discovered digital scales, packaging materials, and $2,873 that was seized as drug proceeds.

Sanquintin was previously convicted in September 2018 for possession with intent to distribute a Class B substance, along with two counts of unlawful firearm possession.

He was arrested and charged with trafficking in fentanyl, trafficking in methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

His co-defendant, Alexis Garcia-Ruberio, 27, was also charged with the narcotics offenses and additionally cited for motor vehicle infractions.
