Fatal crash closes Route 209 in Wawarsing

WAWARSING — A head-on collision between a car and motorhome on State Route 209 left one person dead and another injured Sept. 30.

State Police from Ellenville responded to the two-vehicle crash at approximately 7:46 a.m. in the town of Wawarsing.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2021 Hyundai traveling northbound on State Route 209 failed to keep right and collided head-on with a 2004 Gulf Stream Conquest motorhome.

Following the impact, the Hyundai became fully engulfed in flames.

The operator of the Hyundai was identified as Elsa M. Booth, 36, of Ellenville.

Booth was extricated from the vehicle and received emergency medical assistance at the scene.

Despite life-saving efforts, Booth succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Gulf Stream Conquest was identified as Diane R. Delehanty, 68, of Livingston, Texas.

Delehanty was also extricated from the vehicle and transported to Garnet Health Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation remains ongoing.
