Fatal crash in Newport leaves 1 dead, 2 injured

NEWPORT — State Police responded to a report of a serious motor vehicle accident with personal injury on Butler Road in the town of Newport at approximately 9:17 p.m. Sept. 30.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado, operated by Jordan F. Doxtader, age 32, of Newport, was traveling eastbound on Butler Road when he lost control while navigating a curve.

The vehicle crossed into the westbound lane and struck a 2024 Ford Transit Connect head-on.

The Transit Connect, operated by Rodney K. Dodge, age 59, of Utica, was traveling westbound at the time of the collision.

Rodney K. Dodge was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A passenger in the Transit Connect, Dale R. Dodge, age 27, of Utica, was transported to Wynn Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Jordan F. Doxtader was airlifted by Mercy Flight Helicopter to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse with non-life-threatening injuries.

State Police were assisted at the scene by the Newport Fire Department, Mercy Flight, and Kuyahoora Valley Ambulance.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
