POUGHKEEPSIE — A 22-year-old man was arrested on drug and weapons charges after authorities executed a search warrant at his residence on Flannery Avenue.
Justin Ellis was taken into custody without incident on Sept. 30 following a narcotics investigation by the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office Drug Task Force.
Agents began investigating after developing intelligence about a suspected fentanyl dealer operating in the area of Corlies Manor and Flannery Avenue.
During the investigation, agents conducted multiple purchases of fentanyl and cocaine from Ellis, which led to securing the search warrant.
The Drug Task Force, assisted by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services Unit and the Poughkeepsie Police SWAT Team, executed the warrant.
The search resulted in the seizure of quantities of cocaine, fentanyl, drug packaging materials, U.S. currency, digital scales and other items associated with drug distribution.
A loaded .40-caliber handgun with a defaced serial number was also recovered.
Ellis was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class C violent felony; criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a class D felony; criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony; and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fourth degree, a class C felony.
Multiple charges related to the sale of cocaine and fentanyl to Drug Task Force agents are anticipated.
Ellis was arraigned in Poughkeepsie City Justice Court and remanded to Dutchess County Jail.
The investigation involved collaboration between the New York State Police Community Stabilization Unit and police departments from Poughkeepsie, Beacon, Hyde Park, East Fishkill and Fishkill.
