ALBANY, NY — Albany police are investigating a fatal vehicular crash that occurred Tuesday evening on Everett Road near the I-90 exit ramp.
Officers responded around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday to Everett Road near the I-90 exit ramp for reports of a vehicular crash.
Upon arrival, officers located a 34-year-old male inside one of the vehicles who sustained serious traumatic injuries.
The victim was treated on scene by the Albany Fire Department and Emergency Medical Personnel and subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.
The name of the victim will not be released until proper notifications have been made.
The driver of the second vehicle, 29-year-old Matthew Merriman of Rotterdam was taken into custody at the scene after officers observed signs of impairment.
He was treated on scene and transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was exiting the off ramp of I-90 onto Everett Road when the second vehicle traveling northbound on Everett Road crashed into his vehicle.
Merriman has been charged with one count of vehicular manslaughter in the second degree, one count of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, two counts of reckless criminal mischief in the fourth degree and multiple violations of the Vehicle and Traffic Law.
He was arraigned Wednesday morning in Albany City Criminal Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail.
