Potsdam motorcyclist dies after collision with vehicle

POTSDAM — New York State Police responded to a motorcycle vs. vehicle collision on Sissonville Road at approximately 3:55 p.m. Sept. 21.

An investigation revealed that a gray 2004 Toyota, driven by Joseph W. Franco, 20, of Cheshire, Connecticut, was traveling north on Sissonville Road when he attempted to make a left-hand turn into a driveway.

During this maneuver, a red 1978 Yamaha motorcycle, operated by James V. Benvenuto, 78, of Potsdam, collided head-on with the vehicle.

Local rescue departments arrived on scene and rendered aid to Benvenuto.

He was transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

He was later airlifted to SUNY Upstate due to the severity of his injuries.

Benvenuto succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
