NAUGATUCK — An 18-year-old man was arrested after police say he fired a gun during an attempted robbery at a Hill Street apartment Saturday night.
Larry Mason of Naugatuck was charged with reckless endangerment in the first degree, illegal discharge of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit and criminal attempt at robbery in the first degree.
Police responded to the multifamily residence at approximately 8 p.m. Saturday after witnesses reported hearing a potential gunshot and cries for help from a third-floor apartment.
Officers found signs of a struggle inside the unit, including displaced furniture and minor property damage.
Police also observed manufactured gun parts and a potential bullet hole in the building.
The third-floor tenant was located unharmed, and detectives determined an altercation had occurred over cash inside the residence.
Mason drew a firearm with the intent to rob the tenant, and a struggle ensued, resulting in the gun being discharged inside the apartment, police said.
No injuries were reported.
Evidence collected included a 3D-printed lower handgun frame and firearm magazine.
Mason was held on $500,000 bond and appeared in Waterbury Superior Court on Monday.
