VAN ETTEN — A 39-year-old woman was arrested Sept. 18 after allegedly pointing what appeared to be a pistol at a man who approached her vehicle that was blocking traffic.
Stephanie A. Swartwood of Van Etten was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a class D felony, and menacing in the second degree, a class A misdemeanor.
The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Langford Creek Road near Blake Hill Road around 8:44 p.m. for a menacing complaint.
A male victim reported that a female had aimed a handgun at him.
The sheriff’s office criminal investigations division determined the victim had attempted to check on occupants of a motor vehicle parked in the middle of Langford Creek Road that was impeding traffic.
When the victim approached the vehicle, the driver, identified as Swartwood, aimed what appeared to be a pistol in his direction, causing him to become alarmed.
Multiple imitation pistols were found inside the vehicle and seized.
Swartwood is currently under supervision of the Chemung County Probation Department.
She was arraigned in Horseheads Town Court and released on her own recognizance.
Swartwood is scheduled to appear in Van Etten Town Court at a later date.
The New York State Police and Chemung County Probation Department assisted in the investigation.
