TROY — A 44-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing that occurred Tuesday afternoon, the same suspect who has been arrested for drug sales three separate times in the past five months.
On Tuesday around 3:30 p.m., Troy Police patrol officers responded to 911 calls reporting an assault that had occurred inside a residence on 2nd Avenue near 114th Street.
Upon their arrival, patrol officers located a 42-year-old male who had been stabbed in the upper torso by an adult male suspect.
The suspect had fled the scene immediately after the assault.
The victim was treated on scene and transported to a local area hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Troy Police detectives continued the investigation and were able to identify and capture the suspect later Tuesday night, within six hours of the assault.
It was determined the suspect and victim know each other, and the suspect targeted the victim because the victim was involved in a prior criminal case as a witness.
Troy Police detectives have arrested the suspect, Kevin Benson, in three other separate drug investigations in recent months.
In April, Benson was the target of a drug investigation at a residence on 2nd Avenue in Troy.
Detectives collected evidence and conducted a court-ordered search warrant at a residence, culminating in Benson being arrested.
At that time he was charged with three separate drug-sale related felonies.
In July, detectives pursued another investigation after receiving complaints regarding a residence near Hutton Street and Old 6th Avenue in Troy.
In that case, detectives conducted a court-ordered search warrant at a residence and related vehicle which concluded with the arrest of Benson for two separate drug-sale related felonies.
On Sept. 18, Troy Police detectives were continuing an investigation focused on drug sales from a residence on 2nd Avenue.
A court-ordered search warrant was conducted and as a result, Kevin Benson was arrested for multiple drug-sale related felonies and misdemeanors.
Benson was arraigned and sent to Rensselaer County Jail.
On Sept. 23, Kevin Benson posted bail and was released from custody around 2:41 p.m.
It is alleged he almost immediately traveled to North Troy and sought out the victim, stabbing the victim and fleeing the scene.
Benson is currently held without bail while the criminal cases progress.
Benson, 44, of Troy, is charged with first-degree assault and first-degree tampering with a witness.
