Albany, NY man charged with murdering parents in 2017, burying bodies in backyard

ALBANY — A 53-year-old Albany man has been charged in connection with a homicide that occurred in 2017 on Crestwood Court.

On Tuesday, detectives from the Albany Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Unit with the assistance of the New York State Police and the Social Security Administration Office of the Inspector General executed a search warrant at 6 Crestwood Court in reference to a financial crime investigation.

During the search warrant several items of evidentiary value were recovered.

Furthering the investigation, it was determined that 92-year-old Franz Kraus and 83-year-old Theresia Kraus had not been seen or heard from for several years.

The investigation revealed that their son Lorenz Kraus had been collecting their social security benefits and using the funds for his own personal use.

On Wednesday, members from the Albany Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Unit, the New York State Police and the Social Security Administration Office of the Inspector General recovered two deceased bodies buried in the backyard of 6 Crestwood Court.

On Thursday at around 3 p.m. Lorenz Kraus contacted news outlet CBS6 to give a full confession of killing his parents.

During the interview, Kraus confessed to news anchor Greg Floyd that he killed both of his parents in 2017 and then buried their bodies in the backyard.

After the interview, Kraus was taken into custody by members of the Albany Police Department.

Kraus has been charged with two counts of Murder 2nd and two counts of Concealment of a Human Corpse.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court Friday morning.
