WESTMORELAND — A 46-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting another resident with a screwdriver at a state-run facility, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.
Keith Nickerson of Westmoreland was charged with one count of assault in the second degree, a Class D felony, and one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, a Class A misdemeanor.
The investigation began Sept. 17 when patrol deputies responded to the facility for an assault investigation.
Deputies determined that on the evening of Sept. 16, one resident had assaulted another resident with a screwdriver.
An investigator determined that Nickerson had used the screwdriver in an attempt to stab the victim in the head.
The victim moved enough during the attack to avoid being directly struck in the head and sustained a minor injury to his temple.
Nickerson was arrested Sept. 23 by the Criminal Investigation Unit.
He was transported to the Sheriff’s Office where he was processed and held for arraignment in CAP Court.
After arraignment, Nickerson was held on $2,000 cash bail.
An order of protection was also requested on behalf of the victim.
