RUTLAND — Police have applied for an arrest warrant for a New Jersey man in connection with vehicle break-ins at Rutland State Park on Sept. 5.

Two victims reported their vehicles had been broken into while they visited the state park, with wallets and purses stolen from their locked cars.

Credit cards, debit cards and cash were taken from both vehicles, according to the Rutland Police Department.

Both victims received fraud alerts from their banks about attempted purchases at a Sturbridge Walmart.

The first victim’s bank successfully denied the initial transaction, allowing time to cancel other cards before funds were stolen.

The second victim’s cards were used to load more than $7,000 onto gift cards at stores in Sturbridge, Auburn and Vernon, Connecticut.

Sturbridge police provided video footage of two suspects making transactions at the Walmart.

Spencer police processed fingerprints from the second victim’s vehicle, which had been washed the night before the break-in.

The Worcester Police Department’s forensic unit matched the fingerprints to Ramon Rosario of New Jersey.

New Jersey State Police provided booking photos of Rosario that matched the suspect in Walmart surveillance videos.

Rosario has a lengthy criminal history for similar crimes and uses several aliases, police said.

Police have applied for a warrant charging Rosario with larceny under $1,200, two counts of identity fraud, improper use of credit card over $1,200, two counts of breaking and entering for a misdemeanor, conspiracy and malicious destruction of property.
