LAWRENCE — Police arrested a driver Thursday after discovering an untraceable firearm and ammunition during a traffic stop on expired license plates.
Officers conducted the stop during the midnight shift Sept. 11 after identifying that the vehicle had a license plate with an expired, non-renewable status.
The driver was found to have an active arrest warrant related to firearm charges.
The stop led to the recovery of an un-serialized “ghost gun,” along with 16 rounds of 9mm ammunition and an additional 15 rounds of .40 caliber ammunition stored separately.
The firearm had no serial number, with an upper slide resembling a Glock-style barrel and a grip consistent with a P80 lower receiver, commonly associated with ghost guns.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident.
Police charged the driver with unlawful possession of a large-capacity feeding device, improper storage of a firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, violation of municipal ordinance/bylaw and operation of an unregistered motor vehicle.
