Maine fire marshal executes warrant in Pittston explosive device investigation

1 min read

PITTSTON — The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office executed an arrest warrant Wednesday at 158 Wiscasset Road in connection with an ongoing investigation that began in Newcastle on Monday.

The investigation stems from a traffic stop conducted Monday by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, during which authorities discovered explosive devices.

At approximately 11:40 a.m., the Maine State Police Tactical Team responded to the scene to assist the Fire Marshal’s Office in executing the search warrant, given the high-risk nature of the situation.

Nicholas Presby, 43, of Augusta, was arrested without incident.

Presby, who was an occupant in the vehicle stopped Monday by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, was present at the Pittston residence but does not live there.

He is currently in the custody of the Fire Marshal’s Office and will be charged with one count of Criminal Use of Explosives, a Class C felony.

A significant law enforcement presence remains in the Pittston-Randolph area as the investigation continues.

Route 27 remains closed.

The Fire Marshal’s Office has requested the assistance of the Maine State Police Bomb Team in executing the search warrant of the residence.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Pittston-Randolph Consolidated School was requested to go into lockdown during the execution of the warrant.

That lockdown has since been lifted.

Kennebec County Sheriff Deputies and State Fire Marshal Investigators remained at the school during the operation.

Agencies assisting in the investigation include the Maine State Police Tactical Team, Maine State Police Bomb Team, Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office, Gardiner Fire & Rescue, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, FBI, and ATF.
