RICHLAND — State police provided an update Tuesday regarding the search for Alexander J. Thornton, 33, of Clay, who was reported as a missing vulnerable adult on Sept. 7.
On Sept. 22 at approximately 8:30 a.m., State Police were notified of a vehicle located off Interstate 81 southbound in the town of Richland.
The vehicle appeared to have crashed in a wooded area.
A preliminary investigation determined that a 2008 black BMW M6, operated by Thornton, exited the roadway into the median, struck a ditch, then continued into a wooded area where it struck a tree.
Thornton was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Thornton had previously been reported missing and was believed to be operating the same vehicle involved in the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing.
