CHELSEA — The Chelsea Police Department has arrested Edwin Geovanny Videz-Trinidad, age 27 of East Boston in connection with an armed robbery and assault that occurred Monday morning at the EZ Mart convenience store at 177 Washington Ave. on Sept. 22.
At approximately 9:04 a.m., Chelsea Police officers responded to a 911 call reporting a male suspect armed with knives attempting to rob the store.
Upon arrival, officers encountered a shaken store clerk who reported that the suspect had entered wearing a blue sweatshirt, black pajama pants, and a black ski mask while armed with two knives.
Surveillance footage captured the suspect entering the store, engaging in a violent struggle with the clerk, and repeatedly swinging a knife at the victim while attempting to force his way behind the counter.
The suspect then threw objects at the clerk before fleeing the store still armed with a knife.
Chelsea Police detectives and officers immediately canvassed the area, reviewing both city and residential surveillance systems.
Video evidence showed the suspect discarding his mask in a nearby trashcan and removing his sweatshirt near 10 Forsyth St.
Officers later recovered a knife matching the clerk’s description, along with clothing consistent with the robbery.
Videz-Trinidad was located in a Forsyth Street apartment.
Physical evidence and surveillance footage linked Trinidad to the robbery.
He was taken into custody without incident and transported to CPD Headquarters for booking.
Videz-Trinidad faces charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, armed robbery and malicious destruction of property over $1,200.
Trinidad was arraigned in Chelsea District Court Tuesday.
The case will be prosecuted by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
