Off-duty New York state trooper arrested after hit-and-run crash in Cortlandt

CORTLANDT — State police arrested an off-duty trooper following a series of motor vehicle crashes on Sept. 21.

Troopers responded to a reported hit-and-run at Roa Hook Road and State Route 9 at approximately 4:54 p.m.

An investigation found that a 2021 Toyota SUV struck a vehicle stopped at a red light and fled the scene.

Witnesses reported the vehicle continued south on Route 9, traveling the wrong way and hitting additional cars before stopping at a residence in Ossining.

The driver was identified as Trooper Jennifer Alvarez.

Indicators of intoxication were observed, and field sobriety tests were administered.

Alvarez was arrested for driving while intoxicated and transported to the State Police barracks in Cortlandt for processing.

She was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Cortlandt Court on Oct. 8 at 4 p.m. and released to a third party.

No injuries were reported.

The investigation is continuing.
