Police: 13-year-old charged after attempted bicycle robbery in Utica

UTICA — A juvenile reported being threatened with a handgun during an attempted bicycle robbery on Aug. 28.

The victim told police he was riding his bike on Square Street around 7:30 p.m. when another juvenile approached him, displayed a handgun, and demanded the bicycle.

The victim stated the suspect racked the weapon and threatened to shoot him if he did not comply.

He reported he was able to flee on the bicycle, return home, and contact police.

The case was assigned to the Juvenile Aid Unit, and investigators obtained surveillance video of the incident.

With assistance from the Mohawk Valley Crime Analysis Center, a 13-year-old male suspect was identified.

The suspect was charged with attempted robbery in the first degree.

He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to probation and family court.
