Burlington officer involved in shooting

BURLINGTON — A Burlington police officer fired a weapon at a subject Sunday evening.

The incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 10.

The subject was taken into custody and is receiving medical care for injuries.

The Vermont State Police is leading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.

Officers had responded to a disturbance on Riverside Avenue earlier in the day.

The response developed into a prolonged encounter that continued into the evening.

The Vermont State Police Major Crime Unit is investigating the circumstances of the shooting.

The state police Crime Scene Search Team processed the location.

The officer involved will be identified after 24 hours.

The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave by the Burlington Police Department.

Upon completion, the investigation will be turned over to the Vermont Attorney General’s Office and the relevant State’s Attorney’s Office for independent reviews.
