PORTLAND — Three people were arrested Thursday on aggravated drug trafficking charges following a yearlong investigation into drug activity in the city.
The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency’s Portland-based Cumberland District task force executed a search warrant at 23 Hanover Street, Apartment 1R, at approximately 2 p.m. Thursday.
Due to heightened risk factors, the Portland Police Department’s Special Reaction Team secured the apartment prior to the search.
Agents seized 622 grams of fentanyl, 175 grams of cocaine base, 45 grams of cocaine hydrochloride, 145 grams of methamphetamine, two loaded handguns and over $5,600 in suspected drug proceeds.
The street value of the seized drugs is estimated to exceed $100,000.
Dashawn Allen, 34, of Roxbury, Massachusetts, was charged with aggravated trafficking of Schedule W drugs, unlawful trafficking of Schedule W drugs and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
Allen had an active arrest warrant for unlawful trafficking of Schedule W drugs at the time of his arrest.
Jaden Grant, 21, of Somerville, Massachusetts, was charged with aggravated trafficking of Schedule W drugs, unlawful trafficking of Schedule W drugs and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
Michael Ray, 71, of Portland, was charged with aggravated trafficking of Schedule W drugs and unlawful trafficking of Schedule W drugs.
All three were taken to Cumberland County Jail with no bail set.
The investigation included undercover purchases of illegal drugs from Allen.
The MDEA was assisted by the Portland Police Department and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
