AVON — Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports the arrest of a Monroe County resident on felony charges following a traffic stop by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.
On Sept. 17 at approximately 9:30 p.m., Sheriff’s Deputy Jerry Pilkenton was assigned to the Sheriff’s Office Highway Patrol Unit when he conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Interstate 390 in the Town of Avon after observing a violation of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law.
Contact was made with the operator, who was identified as 56-year-old Sammie Griner of Rochester.
It was discovered that Griner was operating while having a suspended NYS Driver’s License.
Griner was also found to be in possession of metal knuckles.
Deputy Pilkenton arrested Griner and charged him with felony Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, misdemeanor Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the Second Degree and violations of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law.
Griner was transported and turned over to Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for arrest processing and pre-arraignment detention.
Griner was later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part at the Livingston County Jail before Town of Avon Justice Hoffman.
The Judge did remand Griner to the custody of the Sheriff without the possibility of bail due to him having two or more prior felony convictions.
The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office was present and represented Griner at the court arraignment for his defense.
