SHERBURNE — The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 45-year-old Sherburne man Friday on a sealed indictment for rape and sexual abuse charges.
Wayne H. Viera was arrested Sept. 19 following the execution of a sealed indictment arrest warrant.
The sealed indictment charges Viera with two counts of rape in the first degree, a Class B felony.
He also faces one count of rape in the second degree, a Class D felony.
Viera is additionally charged with two counts of sexual abuse in the first degree, a Class D felony.
The arrest stems from an investigation by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office alleging that Viera, a New York State registered sex offender, raped a juvenile female victim.
Following his arrest, Viera was arraigned in Chenango County Court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail.
Bail was set at $85,000 cash, $500,000 partially secured bond with 10% down, or $200,000 insurance company bail bond.
The investigation remains ongoing.
