WEBSTER — A 34-year-old Webster man was arrested early Sunday after allegedly assaulting two police officers during a traffic stop, leaving one officer with a broken finger.
Oscar Ucher of 77 Chase Ave. was charged with multiple offenses including aggravated assault and battery on a police officer causing serious bodily injury after the incident that began around 12:48 a.m. Sunday.
Officer Bryan Blomgren was patrolling Main Street when he observed a vehicle run a red light at the intersection of Main Street and Chase Avenue, according to Webster Police Department.
Blomgren activated his emergency lights to stop the vehicle, but the driver pulled into an apartment complex at 77-91.5 Chase Ave. instead of stopping.
The driver, later identified as Ucher, got out of the vehicle and walked toward a basement door leading to a multi-family apartment building at 77 Chase Ave.
Blomgren ordered Ucher back to the vehicle and requested identification, but Ucher refused to comply and began opening the basement door.
After requesting backup and warning Ucher he would be arrested if he didn’t identify himself, Blomgren attempted to place Ucher under arrest when he tried to enter the apartment.
Ucher violently resisted and began screaming, physically struggling with Blomgren as they entered the apartment, police said.
Officer Alex Johnson arrived but initially could not locate Blomgren because Ucher and a female accomplice had shut the apartment door.
Blomgren was able to open the door during the struggle, and Johnson entered the apartment.
Upon seeing Johnson, Ucher yelled to close the door in an apparent attempt to trap Blomgren alone inside, according to police.
Johnson ordered Ucher to the ground, but Ucher refused and pushed the officer, prompting both officers to take him to the ground.
While on the ground, Ucher reached toward his waistband as if trying to get a weapon and continued resisting, police said.
Johnson delivered several defensive strikes and deployed a Taser to subdue Ucher.
With assistance from Dudley Police Officers Lara and Forcier, Ucher was taken into custody.
Blomgren suffered a broken finger and Johnson sustained minor injuries in the assault.
Ucher faces charges including two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, refusing to identify as a motor vehicle operator, failure to stop/yield, and aggravated assault and battery on a police officer causing serious bodily injury.
He was arraigned at Dudley District Court on Monday and released on $2,000 cash bail.
