Springfield police seize AK-47, drugs in trafficking investigation

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield police arrested three suspects and seized an AK-47 rifle, crack cocaine, heroin/fentanyl and nearly $7,000 in cash during raids Wednesday morning.

The arrests followed a months-long investigation by the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit into drug distribution around Hennessey Park on Oak Grove Avenue.

Police executed search warrants at 6:15 a.m. at homes on Sycamore Street and Worcester Street in Indian Orchard, along with a vehicle connected to the drug activity.

At the Sycamore Street home, officers detained Idaliz Maisonet and Rebecca Pachot before locating Vidal Hernandez-Vazquez hiding in an attic.

Police K9 Ace helped locate Hernandez-Vazquez and detected narcotics in the home.

Officers recovered approximately 34 grams of crack cocaine and 607 bags of heroin/fentanyl weighing 12.1 grams, along with $2,885 in cash.

Police also seized an AK-47 style rifle with a loaded 30-round magazine, 51 additional rounds of ammunition and another firearm magazine.

At the Worcester Street location, officers found six people who were later released and seized 15 rounds of ammunition and $3,970 in cash.

Hernandez-Vazquez, 19, of Indian Orchard faces 10 charges including cocaine trafficking, fentanyl trafficking, unlicensed possession of an assault weapon and conspiracy to violate drug laws.

Maisonet, 47, of Springfield faces the same 10 charges as Hernandez-Vazquez.

Pachot, 45, of Springfield also faces identical charges to the other two suspects.
