NEW HARTFORD — A 28-year-old man was arrested Sunday after his vehicle struck a marked police SUV while officers investigated suspicious activity at a Stewart’s Shop parking lot.
Tarik Muric of Utica was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a Class A misdemeanor, after police found pills in his possession.
New Hartford Police responded to the Stewart’s Shop at 4756 Middle Settlement Road around 2 p.m. following a citizen’s report of suspicious activity in a vehicle in the parking lot.
When officers attempted to speak with Muric, he accelerated his vehicle and collided with the police SUV, damaging the patrol vehicle.
During the investigation, officers discovered a quantity of pills in Muric’s possession.
Muric also was charged with possession of a controlled substance outside of an original container, a violation of the Public Health Law, and moving a stopped vehicle unsafely, a traffic violation.
He was transported to the New Hartford Police Department, booked and issued appearance tickets returnable to Town Court.
No injuries were reported despite the congested parking area at the time of the incident.
