Montpelier woman arrested on assault charges after bottle attack

MONTPELIER — An 18-year-old woman was arrested Sept. 15 on felony and misdemeanor charges after allegedly striking someone in the head with a bottle.

Montpelier police responded at approximately 4:59 p.m. to a report of an individual who had been struck in the head with a bottle.

Officers found the victim with an obvious head injury and transported them to a hospital for treatment and evaluation.

Police located and arrested Brooklyn Champaine on a charge of aggravated assault.

While being taken into custody, Champaine spit on a Montpelier police officer twice and kicked the officer once in the arm, according to police.

Champaine faces three additional counts of assault of a protected professional, one count of disorderly conduct and one count of violation of conditions of release.

A Vermont Superior Court judge set bail and conditions of release for Champaine.

Champaine was transported to the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility for lack of $5,000 bail.

She is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges Sept. 16 at 12:30 p.m.
