Worcester police arrest woman in stabbing of man

WORCESTER — Worcester Police officers arrested a woman in connection with the stabbing of a man early Friday morning.

At approximately 2 a.m. on Sept. 13, officers observed a large crowd yelling and pointing toward a fight in a public parking lot on Water Street.

As officers exited their cruiser, they observed a male fall to the ground and a female aggressively moving toward him.

Officers separated them and the woman attempted to run from the scene but was quickly placed into handcuffs.

Officers attended to the male who had a stab wound to his left abdomen area.

While officers provided aid to the male, he told them that he had never seen the female before and that she approached him and started attacking him.

The male was taken to a nearby hospital.

A pocketknife was found at the scene.

Twenty-two-year-old Makayli Melendez of Worcester is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

The Worcester Police Department’s Detective Bureau is investigating.
