Meriden man arrested on firearm charges after Hubbard Park altercation

MERIDEN — The Meriden Police Department arrested a convicted felon Tuesday on charges related to possession of a stolen firearm following an April altercation at Hubbard Park.

Osvaldo Rivera was served an arrest warrant during a court appearance at GA-7 in Meriden on Sept. 12.

Police received a report of an altercation at Hubbard Park, located at 999 West Main Street, on April 14 at approximately 6:55 p.m.

It was reported that a person involved in the confrontation was in possession of a firearm.

The people involved in the confrontation left Hubbard Park before officers arrived on scene.

Members of the Patrol Division conducted two separate traffic stops on vehicles that contained the people involved.

During one traffic stop, officers located a stolen .357 Magnum Revolver in the trunk area of the vehicle.

The firearm had been entered as stolen by the Largo Police Department in Florida.

An investigation determined that Rivera was in control of the firearm.

Rivera is a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms.

On Aug. 26, Meriden Superior Court granted an arrest warrant charging Rivera with criminal possession of a firearm, theft of a firearm, and carrying a pistol without a permit.

The arrest warrant holds a court set cash/surety bond of $75,000.
