Portland police offer $5K reward in 8-year-old cold case homicide

PORTLAND — The Portland Police Department is partnering with Seacoast Crime Stoppers to offer a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest or indictment in the eight-year-old homicide of Sunao “Tom” Yamada.

The reward will expire Sept. 10, 2026.

Yamada was found dead in the early morning hours of Sept. 10, 2017, in the area of Temple and Federal streets.

The Medical Examiner’s Office determined the manner of death to be homicide.

Portland police have conducted a detailed investigation into Yamada’s death over the past eight years.

Seacoast Crime Stoppers is a volunteer-run nonprofit organization that operates in New Hampshire and southern Maine, providing an anonymous channel for citizens to report unsolved crimes to local police and offering cash rewards for information leading to arrests.
