HOLYOKE — Holyoke police arrested two suspected drug dealers and seized heroin, fentanyl and crack cocaine during an enforcement operation at Gramps Park on Friday.
Officers responded to the park on Elm Street around 7 p.m. for suspected drug activity as part of the Park Engagement Initiative, Police Chief Brian Keenan announced.
The park is open from sunrise to sunset, and officers arrived after closing time to find three people inside.
When the subjects saw police, they began heading toward an alleyway, with one man running away.
Officers Justo Pagan and Johnathan Ortiz pursued and detained the fleeing suspect, identified as Josue Quiles-Ramos.
Quiles-Ramos had two outstanding arrest warrants from Holyoke District Court and was placed under arrest.
Officers recovered 32 bags of heroin/fentanyl, 30 vials of crack cocaine and cash from Quiles-Ramos.
Officers Christopher Decoteau and Marian Rivera stopped the two other subjects.
One woman was released from the scene.
The other subject, identified as Nathaniel Reilly, was arrested after officers found narcotics on him.
Officers seized 28 bags of heroin/fentanyl and approximately three grams of crack cocaine from Reilly.
Quiles-Ramos, 28, of Holyoke, is charged with possession with intent to distribute Class A and Class B drugs, possession of Class A and Class B drugs, and two arrest warrants.
Reilly, 43, of Northampton, is charged with possession with intent to distribute a Class A drug, possession of a Class A drug and possession of a Class B drug.
