NEW HAMPTON — A Massachusetts man suffered minor injuries in a box truck crash in New Hampton.
At 4:26 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, State Police dispatch started receiving calls about a box truck off the road on Interstate 93 northbound, just before Exit 23 in New Hampton.
Troopers from the Troop D barracks responded and located the box truck, identified as a 2012 yellow Hino 258/268, up in the trees in the median.
The preliminary investigation determined that the driver of the box truck, identified as Anilton Resende Barros, 21, of Brockton, Massachusetts, had been traveling on Interstate 93 northbound when, for reasons that remain under investigation, he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway.
The box truck went straight into the median, traveling over the crossover between the north and southbound lanes, struck an embankment, and launched into a group of trees before coming to a final stop in the woods separating the opposing lanes.
Resende Barros suffered minor injuries in the crash and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
The left travel lanes of Interstate 93 northbound and southbound were closed at Exit 23 for about four hours for the cleanup of the crash.
All lanes were back open at 8:58 a.m.
All aspects of the crash remain under investigation.
