Fatal crash closes I-89 in South Burlington

SOUTH BURLINGTON — A 33-year-old Barre man died in a single-vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 89 southbound Saturday morning, Vermont State Police said.

Joseph Taplin was killed when his 2017 Kia Forte left the roadway near mile marker 86.7 at approximately 6:12 a.m., according to police.

Troopers said the vehicle entered the median, rolled over and came to rest on its roof.

Taplin was not wearing a seat belt and was the sole occupant of the vehicle, police said.

The South Burlington Fire Department assisted troopers at the scene.

Road conditions were dry and weather was cloudy at the time of the crash, according to the report.

The crash remains under investigation.
