NEWBURY — A 69-year-old Concord motorcyclist died Friday afternoon after colliding with another motorcycle on U.S. Route 302 near the P & H Truck Stop.
Vermont State Police troopers from the St. Johnsbury Barracks responded to the two-vehicle crash at approximately 3:25 p.m.
The operator of the first motorcycle, Tracy Mart, was found unresponsive at the scene.
CPR was initiated immediately, but despite lifesaving efforts, Mart was pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS.
The second operator, Steven Staniszewski, 72, of Stevensville, Maryland, sustained no injuries.
Staniszewski’s 2020 Indian Roadmaster sustained moderate damage to the rear and left side.
Preliminary investigation indicates that Staniszewski was traveling east on Route 302 and had slowed down as a truck was turning into the parking lot of the P & H Truck Stop.
Mart, who was also traveling eastbound on a 2020 Harley Davidson Tri Glide Ultra, collided with the rear of Staniszewski’s motorcycle.
Mart was ejected from his vehicle, which came to rest on the southern side of the roadway.
At this time, neither speed nor impairment appear to be contributing factors.
The crash remains under active investigation.
Weather conditions were clear and road conditions were dry at the time of the crash.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is encouraged to contact Vermont State Police.
