Jamestown man charged with murder after crossbow death

JAMESTOWN — Members of the Jamestown Police Department responded to an address on West Fourth Street for a suspicious situation at about 4:54 a.m. Sept. 12.

Officers located 62-year-old Michael R. Jaeckle deceased with an apparent injury from a crossbow.

During the investigation, 58-year-old David W. Nelson, of Jamestown, was taken into custody while being in possession of a crossbow.

Nelson was charged with murder in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon third degree.

Nelson is in custody in the Jamestown City Jail awaiting arraignment on the charges.

The investigation is ongoing.

The Jamestown Police Department is being assisted by the Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, Chautauqua County Forensic Investigation Team, New York State Police, Ellicott Police Department, and Chautauqua County Coroner’s Office.
