Tractor-trailer crashes into overpass bridge on Maine Turnpike in Scarborough

SCARBOROUGH — A tractor-trailer crashed into the Gorham Road overpass bridge at mile 44 south on the Maine Turnpike early Friday morning.

The crash occurred at approximately 12:47 a.m. Sept. 12, according to Maine State Police.

Preliminary investigation showed that the operator of the tractor-trailer may have experienced a medical event and struck the center median wall before striking the bridge abutment.

The operator was transported to Maine Medical Center with minor injuries.

Southbound traffic was limited to one lane of travel for 5.5 hours and northbound traffic was limited to two lanes of travel for 3 hours.

Troop G was assisted by the Maine Turnpike Authority, South Portland Fire, Maine DEP, Ray’s Towing, New England Truck Center, and Clean Harbors.
