Lyndonville man cited for false statement during firearms transfer

LYNDONVILLE — A 78-year-old man was cited for making a false statement during an attempted firearms purchase Sept. 10.

Robert Briggs of Lyndon was charged with false statement during a firearms transfer, according to the Lyndonville Police Department.

Police received a teletype at 11:47 a.m. from the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System regarding a denied attempted purchase of a firearm at a local licensed dealer.

A responding patrol officer reviewed documents at the dealer and determined that Briggs made a false statement in response to a question on the ATF Form 4473/Firearms Transaction Record.

Officer Gerrish located Briggs and cited him into Caledonia Superior Court.

Briggs is scheduled for arraignment Nov. 17 at 8:30 a.m.
