2 arrested in Southbridge drug trafficking investigation

SOUTHBRIDGE — Detectives from the Southbridge Police Department and Charlton Police Department arrested two individuals Saturday in connection with a joint narcotics investigation that led to the seizure of fentanyl, prescription pills and a firearm.

The arrests occurred Sept. 6 following surveillance of suspects believed to be engaging in narcotics transactions in Southbridge, including near the methadone clinic on Main Street.

At approximately 11:45 a.m., detectives observed a male subject arriving at the clinic in a black sedan.

After exiting the clinic, the male appeared to engage in a brief hand-to-hand transaction with another male individual who had arrived in a separate vehicle.

Detectives conducted a motor vehicle stop on the second vehicle and recovered suspected oxycodone.

Both male subjects were detained near the rear of the clinic, and a search of their vehicle resulted in the discovery of more than 500 bags of suspected fentanyl packaged for distribution, multiple prescription pills and $1,470 in U.S. currency suspected to be from drug proceeds.

Following the arrests, detectives obtained and executed a search warrant at 79 May Brook Road in Holland.

The search recovered more than 200 grams of suspected heroin packaged for distribution, more than 500 prescription pills, a .45 caliber handgun and more than 300 rounds of ammunition.

Nicholas J. Harrington, 31, of 79 May Brook Road in Holland, was charged with trafficking in fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute clonazepam, possession with intent to distribute alprazolam, possession with intent to distribute methadone, distribution of oxycodone and conspiracy to violate the controlled substances act.

Sherry A. Robidoux, 33, of 16 Old County Road in Holland, was charged with trafficking in fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute clonazepam, possession with intent to distribute alprazolam, possession with intent to distribute methadone, distribution of oxycodone and conspiracy to violate the controlled substances act.

Both were held at Southbridge Police Headquarters on $50,000 cash bail pending their arraignment in Palmer District Court.

Additional charges for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition and narcotics trafficking will be filed by the Holland Police Department.

A third male will be charged at a later date with drug possession.
