Fall River police arrest 5 after finding loaded handgun during vehicle stop

FALL RIVER — Five people were arrested Saturday after police found a loaded handgun with a defaced serial number during a vehicle stop in Father Diaferio Village.

C.A.S.T. detectives conducting proactive patrols observed a 16-year-old male acting suspiciously and displaying characteristics of being armed around Sept. 6.

Detectives stopped a vehicle connected to the activity and found five people inside: two 16-year-old males, two 17-year-old males and 19-year-old Juliana Paiva.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of an FN 509 9mm handgun with a defaced serial number.

The firearm was equipped with a 15-round magazine containing 13 live rounds, plus one round in the chamber.

All five individuals were taken into custody because the firearm was unclaimed and accessible to all occupants.

Each person was charged with carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of a large capacity firearm and defaced firearm serial number.
