Malta man arrested for animal cruelty after kicking dog

MALTA — The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 69-year-old Malta man on animal cruelty charges after receiving a complaint about mistreated dogs.

Eugene R. Willis was charged with overdriving, torturing and injuring animals and failure to provide sustenance, both class A misdemeanors.

The Sheriff’s Office received the animal complaint at 10:33 a.m. Aug. 28 on Knabner Road in Malta.

Willis is accused of kicking a black Labrador Retriever in its rear quarters, resulting in bruising and difficulty voiding or defecating.

The injured dog and a brown Labrador Retriever also at the residence were seized by the Malta animal control officer.

Both animals were transported to the Saratoga County Animal Shelter where they were safely housed and given appropriate medical treatment.

Willis was released on an appearance ticket pending further proceedings in Malta Town Court.
