Schenectady police arrest Bronx man in 2021 homicide

SCHENECTADY — Detectives from the Schenectady Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit arrested a Bronx man Thursday in connection with a 2021 homicide.

Calvin Williams Jr., 36, was charged with second-degree murder in the Sept. 5, 2021, killing of E-Shawn Berkley at 201 S. Brandywine Ave., the location of Tropics Restaurant & Bar.

The arrest was made with assistance from the New York City Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives New York Field Division.

Second-degree murder is a Class A-I felony.

The investigation involved multiple agencies over four years, including the Schenectady County District Attorney’s Office, New York State Police Troop G Major Crimes Unit, New York State Intelligence Center, FBI Capital District Safe Streets Gang Task Force, U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency Group D-52 and Albany Intelligence Unit, and the Capital Region Crime Analysis Center.

The investigation remains active and police said no further information can be released at this time.
