SPRING VALLEY — A 22-year-old Spring Valley man has been charged with criminal trespass after police say he unlawfully entered a residence while children were sleeping upstairs.
The Spring Valley Police Department responded to a trespassing complaint at a residence on Sharon Drive at approximately 12 a.m. on Aug. 24.
Officers spoke with the homeowner, who reported that an unknown male had unlawfully entered his residence while he was not home.
The homeowner stated that at the time of the incident, his wife was outside of the residence with one of their children, while the other two children were asleep upstairs.
The victim provided video evidence showing the unknown male wandering inside the residence.
The victim stated that upon returning home, he encountered the suspect outside the residence.
The suspect approached the victim, asked if he lived at the residence, and then made comments suggesting the victim should change his locks and attend to toys left on the basement floor.
The suspect subsequently left the area.
Following an investigation, police on Aug. 29 arrested Adrien J. Douglas, a resident of Spring Valley.
Douglas was charged with Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree.
He was arraigned before Judge Sweet in the Village of Spring Valley Justice Court and released on his own recognizance.
Douglas was later transported to a hospital for a mental health evaluation.
