Falmouth man arrested in multi-agency drug trafficking investigation

FALMOUTH — A 61-year-old Falmouth man was arrested Friday morning following a months-long cocaine trafficking investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies.

Michael Lutfy was taken into custody after attempting to flee from police in a vehicle on Locust Street at approximately 6:00 a.m. Sept. 5.

Officers from the Falmouth Police Department, Massachusetts State Police, Sandwich Police Department, Cape Cod DEA Task Force, and Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office executed multiple search warrants as part of the operation.

When officers attempted to stop Lutfy’s vehicle, he tried to flee and began discarding narcotics from the moving vehicle, according to police.

The brief pursuit ended on Depot Road where the vehicle was safely stopped.

Search warrants were simultaneously executed at residences on Greengate Road and East Falmouth Highway.

Officers seized a significant quantity of cocaine, cash, and paraphernalia consistent with narcotics distribution during the searches.

Lutfy was charged with trafficking in cocaine, obstruction of justice, failure to stop for police, and marked lanes violation.

He was booked at the Falmouth Police Department and is awaiting arraignment.
