MARLBORO — Vermont State Police arrested a New Hampshire woman Saturday after she allegedly abandoned a cat in a crate along Route 9.
Leonora M. Thomas, 58, of Northfield, New Hampshire, was charged with cruelty to animals after concerned citizens reported seeing someone abandon a cat in a pull-off area at approximately 12:33 p.m.
Troopers from the Westminster Barracks responded to the scene and found the cat left without care in an enclosed crate without access to food or water.
Following an investigation, police arrested Thomas in connection with the incident.
Thomas relinquished ownership of the cat, which was placed in the care of the Windham County Humane Society.
Thomas was issued a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Windham County Criminal Division on Oct. 28 at 8:30 a.m. to answer to the charge of cruelty to animals, a violation of Title 13 V.S.A. 352.
