ELMIRA — The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday the arrest of Tyler K. Blakeslee, a 41-year-old Elmira man, for identity theft in the second degree, a class E felony.

On Aug. 15, the sheriff’s office received information from a representative of GovPayNet that an incarcerated individual was released from the Chemung County Jail on Aug. 4 by fraudulently using someone else’s credit card and identity.

The Criminal Investigations Division assisted with the investigation and determined that the victim who owned the credit card did not allow Blakeslee to use it to bail the incarcerated individual out of jail.

The victim also did not allow Blakeslee to use their name and address under the billing information.

Blakeslee was also found to have an active arrest warrant out of Elmira City Court.

Blakeslee was issued an appearance ticket to return to Elmira City Court at a later date.
