DORSET — Vermont State Police arrested a 43-year-old man on charges of second degree aggravated domestic assault and criminal threatening Monday night.
Mark Johnson of Dorset was taken into custody following a domestic disturbance call at 5148 US Route 7 at approximately 10:25 p.m.
Troopers responded to the scene and made contact with residents at the address before beginning their investigation.
During the investigation, police learned Johnson had struck a household member with a wooden kitchen spoon, causing pain and leaving a mark on their face.
The investigation also revealed Johnson had threatened bodily harm to the same household member via text messages after they had left the scene.
Johnson was initially arrested for domestic assault and criminal threatening.
The domestic assault charge was later upgraded to second degree aggravated domestic assault under Title 23, VSA 1044, subsection 2 (B), due to previous domestic assault convictions.
Judge Jennifer Barrett ordered Johnson held without bail.
He was remanded to the Marble Valley Correctional Facility.
Vermont State Police does not release the names of victims of domestic violence.
