Springport man arrested on felony sexual conduct charges involving child

SPRINGPORT — Members of the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office arrested Craig S. Gilmore, 63, of Springport, on Aug. 29 on charges of course of sexual conduct against a child in the first degree and sex abuse in the first degree, both felonies.

The arrest followed a week-long investigation into a report of sex abuse of a minor child in the Town of Springport, officials said.

Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division responded to a Springport address on Aug. 29 and located Gilmore, the subject of the investigation.

Gilmore is accused of subjecting a child under the age of 11 to sexual contact, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

He was taken into custody at his residence, processed at the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, and arraigned the following morning in CAP Court.

Gilmore was remanded to Cayuga County Jail without bail.

The investigation remains ongoing, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
