FREETOWN — Freetown Police arrested a juvenile Tuesday after the suspect fled on an unregistered dirt bike and entered railroad property during a train crossing.
Officers attempted to stop the dirt bike at approximately 1:30 p.m. on East Howland Road after observing it traveling about 60 mph in a 35 mph zone.
The dirt bike did not display license plates and was heading eastbound when officers initiated the traffic stop.
The operator approached the Chace Road railroad crossing where warning lights and safety arms were activated for a passing MBTA train.
Instead of stopping, the operator turned south onto the railroad right-of-way and rode along the tracks as the train passed.
Police placed a hold on all train traffic in the area as an officer pursued the suspect on foot after the operator left the roadway.
Additional Freetown officers responded and conducted a search of the area.
The suspect was located on an adjacent trail and taken into custody without incident.
The juvenile’s name is not being released due to their age.
The suspect faces multiple charges including reckless operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, unlicensed operation, operating an uninsured and unregistered vehicle, speeding, stop sign violation, marked lanes violation and trespassing on railroad property.
The juvenile is scheduled to appear in Fall River Juvenile Court on Wednesday.
