West Greenwich man arrested on drug charges after traffic stop

WEST GREENWICH — State police arrested a Georgia man on multiple drug charges following a traffic stop Saturday night on Route 95 South.

Louis Whitehead, 45, of Columbus, Ga., was taken into custody at 9:15 p.m. Aug. 30 and charged with manufacturing with intent to deliver Schedule I-II controlled substance, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana more than two ounces, and possession of Schedule I-V controlled substance 10 grams or less.

Whitehead was transported to the Hope Valley Barracks for processing and arraigned as a bail violator before being taken to the Adult Corrections Institute-Men’s intake facility.

He is pending arraignment at Third District Division Court.

In a separate incident early Sunday morning, troopers arrested Robert Gencarella, 27, of Greene, at 3:52 a.m. Aug. 31 during a motor vehicle stop on New London Turnpike in East Greenwich.

Gencarella was arrested on three outstanding warrants: a Superior Court full bench warrant for failure to appear for arraignment on possession of Schedule I-V controlled substance from West Warwick Police, and two Office of the Courts bench warrants for failure to appear on driving with suspended license charges from Coventry Police.

Gencarella was processed at Hope Valley Barracks before being transferred to the Adult Correctional Institute-Men’s Intake.
