WATERBURY — A Milton woman was arrested on multiple charges including driving under the influence and vehicle theft after witnesses reported erratic driving on Interstate 89 southbound Aug. 30.

Vermont State Police began receiving multiple 911 reports at approximately 11:06 a.m. of a white Kia driving erratically along I-89 southbound.

Witnesses described the vehicle making abrupt stops, including stopping in the left lane without warning and stopping in the middle of the road.

The vehicle also failed to maintain its lane, according to witnesses.

One witness reported seeing the vehicle strike a guard rail and continue driving without stopping.

Troopers from the Williston Barracks located the vehicle at the Waterbury Rest Area on I-89 southbound.

Police found the operator passed out behind the wheel.

After waking the driver, troopers identified the individual as Lauren Santamore, 35, of Milton.

Upon investigation, troopers determined Santamore was driving with a criminally suspended license.

Police observed signs of impairment, leading to Santamore’s arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.

A search of the vehicle, conducted with the driver’s consent, revealed illegal narcotics and stolen property, which were recovered by troopers.

The vehicle itself was confirmed to have been stolen out of Washington County.

Santamore was transported to the Williston Barracks for processing.

She was released with a citation to appear at Washington County Superior Court on Oct. 30 at 8:30 a.m.

The charges include vehicle operation without owner’s consent, operating with a criminally suspended license, DUI drugs second offense, negligent operation, possession of stolen property and narcotic possession.
