SPRINGFIELD — Springfield police officers recovered an illegal large capacity firearm and arrested 32-year-old Justin Alvarez on Wednesday at approximately 6:05 p.m.
Officers observed a vehicle in the area of Maple Street and State Street that had its insurance revoked about ten minutes earlier.
Officers then conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, which had three occupants.
The driver, Justin Alvarez, had a suspended license.
During a search of the vehicle, officers recovered an illegal firearm loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition and capable of holding 15 rounds.
Officers placed Alvarez under arrest after discovering he also had two outstanding arrest warrants.
His passengers were released.
Alvarez, 32, of South Hadley is charged with carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded large capacity firearm on a public way, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, and uninsured motor vehicle.
He also faces two arrest warrants for failure to stop for police and threat to commit a crime with violation of an abuse prevention order.
